Why did Topfield PVR go out of business?
The Australian distributor did – not sure about the manufacturer. It’s a shame because they made some good products. I’ve bought a half dozen of their PVRs for myself and family over the last 10 years and NONE OF THEM broke down – though the SD models haven’t seen service for a while.
When did I upgrade my Topfield to HD?
The only Topfield upgrade I did was to buy a (still in use) Topfield 2400 when HD became a TV reality. Bought my mum a 7170 in Dec 2014, it’s been going strong.

Topfield learned their lesson more slowly than Beyonwiz – who only made one Freeview model. It was a sales disaster and almost sent them broke. Eventually, Beyonwiz changed the firmware in thousands of them to remove the Freeview crap and sold them off for $89 – a bargain I couldn’t pass up and the box is still in use.
