The TEAC AD-800 works very well. It produces an excellent sound, and has no big flaws. I use it to dub my old cassettes onto CDs. One hitch: You must transfer the contents of the tape onto a thumb drive, then plug it into a desktop or laptop, and then burn your CD from it.

What’s the difference between the AD 800 and 850?
The difference is that the AD-850 has a microphone karaoke feature and is not auto reverse like the AD-800. I questioned this initially but am OK with the substitution since the AD-850 is a current model and the AD-800 has not been made for some time. Unit works great.

Do you need an amplifier for a TEAC?
The Teac does have a cassette player and recorder built into it. It does not have an amplifier or speakers. If you want to hear what your recording or listening to,and YOU WILL want to, you have to use the Teac RCA output to plug into you home stereo or other amplifier input.
