Does a turntable need power?
A turntable needs an amplifier to play vinyl records. The output signal from a turntable is not strong enough to drive speakers. There is, however, one exception. Powered speakers, that have the amplifier built-in, can be connected directly to a turntable without the need of a separate amplifier.
How do I stop my turntable from humming?
Check the RCA cables that plug in to your amp/preamp, the tonearm wires and especially the cartridge connections. Often they can be loose. You can further troubleshoot the cartridge wires by connecting the {blue and white} and {red and green} wires together using an alligator clip. This should eliminate the hum.
Why am I getting a hum from my turntable?
When it comes to turntables, there are two main causes of humming: ground loops and feedback. Humming caused by grounding issues can be very easy to correct. If using a preamp, it is best to ground from the turntable to the preamp, then from the preamp to the amplifier or speakers.
